This is a typical autumn scene on the Superior National Forest's forest roads. This road, part of the Maple Leaf Fall Color Tour that starts at Highway 61 near Shroeder and winds up the hill into the forest alongside the Temperence River, is called Heartbreak Ridge. It supposedly was named by loggers who, in the winter, were often unable to get their loads of logs up the steep hill that is on this road. I know from firsthand experience how bad this particular road is in the winter. I once attempted to climb this hill in a van when it was almost glare ice... NOT!!! Ever since that day, I've known better than to drive the forest roads in the winter... ;-) This picture was taken in October 1992 while on a fall camping and hunting trip.
This photo was taken with a Honeywell Pentax SP-1000 (Spotmatic) camera using a regular 55mm lens and Kodacolor 200 film.
The digital image was created by having it put on on Photo CD, then converting and retouching it using Corel Photo Paint 5 and Paint Shop Pro for Windows.
