This sight was one of the most awesome things I have ever seen. It was spring 1981, I was living in Duluth, and a friend and I decided to take a drive up the shore for an afternoon. One of our stops was the wayside rest at Cascade River State Park. We got out, and we heard this noise - it sounded like something between a train, and a crumbling building. Very creepy indeed! Well, we walked down to the lakeshore, and immediately realized what it was. It was the ICE! It was breaking up, and it was moving down the shore like a train. We must have sat there watching and listening to it for an hour. This was one incredible example of the sheer force and power that Lake Superior holds...
