Lake Superior in the winter is like a fairyland. The lake rarely freezes over - only about once every ten years or so. Because of that, the waves continue to pelt the rocks on the shore all winter long, and when they do, they create beautiful ice formations. For anyone who is willing to "brave" the winter chill, the North Shore holds many treasures in the wintertime. Actually, it's not even all that cold. If my memory serves me correctly, it is usually about ten degrees warmer by the lake in the winter than it is in the surrounding area when the lake is open, because the water temperature is warmer than the air. This picture was taken in April 1980 on an afternoon outing up the shore.
This photo was taken with a Honeywell Pentax SP-1000 (Spotmatic) camera using an 80-200mm zoom lens and Kodacolor 100 film.
The digital image was created by having it put on on Photo CD, then converting and retouching it using Corel Photo Paint 5 and Paint Shop Pro for Windows.
