I just spent (you could call it wasted) some time reading old messages and see a severe lack of input from the most wonderful class ever to graduate from the Mall of America (I mean the Met). I swore I would never go into the building that destroyed our past, but my daughter loved Camp Snoopy on our last visit to my parents home (who still live in East Richfield). We used to be able to hear the Twins games from our back yard! Well, --and the planes. Remember talking on the phone & having to pause while the planes roared overheard? On our way back to Oregon, I gazed sadly out the Northwest 757 window at what once had been our softball fields. So many things have changed. I am the Director of Federal Programs and Assessment for a school district of approximately 8000 students...fancy title for a paper pusher dealing with federal grant funds. My brother Terry French would have loved this. He would always talk about his old school friends whenever he would fly from his home in Pensacola Florida to So. California to visit me:) Richfield Minnesota was ALWAYS the place he wanted to come back to some day. Terry passed away four years ago on April 1st at the age of 35. How fitting for him to leave this world on that day:) He was the ultimate prankster! His battle with Aids was long and hard, but even his doctor, was amazed at his strength and his fight. Attention all former East Junior High Band Students... Message posted on Wed, 27 Feb 2002 I wanted to let you know that Mr. Harry Strobel, who has been teaching band at East Jr. High/Richfield Intermediate School for the past 47 years, will be retiring at the end of this school year. And with him will be going the band program at RIS, which has become a victim of some rather draconian cuts made to the school district budget. Although I attended West Jr. High myself, my daughter is currently at RIS and she is truly disappointed in the loss of the 5th grade band program. It is sad to see an important part of our past being swept away like this. Classmates does not allow you to e-mail your friends unless you pay their $30 some dollar fee. Martha not only let's you e-mail people from your grade, but other grades as well. Please join deckernet by getting your information in your class year. She has made it possible for every grade that has ever graduated from Richfield High School to have basically their own web site.
