All memorial gifts in his honor will be designated to this specific scholarship fund. After consultation with the faculty in the Education Department, a scholarship in his name will be awarded, as you requested, to an education major with an interest in teaching special education students. This scholarship award will most likely be awarded in the fall of 2005. In addition to a scholarship in honor of Scot, you may also want to consider having a tree planted on the campus in his memory. We have a long-standing campus landscape plan that identifies specific trees for designated areas of the campus. A memorial tree is funded at $200.00 and may be planted in April or October. Family and friends often choose to gather for a memorial tree service soon after the planting. The tree is then tagged with Scot's name and his name is added to a reference portfolio in the alumni relations office here in Loyalty Hall (formerly the "Art Barn"). The Open House at RHS on Saturday was absolutely wonderful. It was wonderful spending most of the day in Room 112 at the high school with my classmates from 1956. Seeing some of our teachers from those early days of the school was something I will never forget. What was even more amazing, was running into people from my old neighborhood in Richfield that were not in my class, but in classes with my brothers and sister. Many years have passed since those days, but renewing friendships and memories was ever so easy. I want to thank everyone who had any part in the 50th Celebration, especially the administration of Richfield High and all the chairs and committes who worked all summer on this project. I was fortunate enough to be a part of the Program Committee, and I am certain that the members of this Committee will be lifelong friends in the future. The biggest gain I received from the celebration, was the pride I felt in being a graduate of this wonderful high school. For those currently in classes, you will be fortunate enough to celebrate the 100th anniversary of RHS. And when you do, you will really feel the same pride as us old duffers do. We were fortunate enough to begin the process of pride within our school. And we are thankful that you are all keeping that pride alive. You are our future, and we are confident that you are getting the education and training that will make you all successful in life. God Bless RHS! Message posted on Sat, 15 May 2004 Hello to all those I know, have heard the name of, and who I haven't yet had the pleasure of meeting. I'm a proud grad of 1958; the first class to go 9 thru 12 at RHS! I was fortunate enough to be in attendance at the 25year 'All Class' bash, and am looking forward to this half-Century get together. The times have changed, OUR dress code of no T-Shirts, no beltless jeans or turned up collars, and no holding hands in the hallway, seems quite innocent. But hey .. we all turned out to be happy and productive citizens of the world. (I guess the dress code didn't really ruin us)! It will be fun to see the faces of 50 years of RHS; hopefully some of our wonderful faculty (they really were), and yes, even some of you who thought folk music was 'here to stay'! (I won't hold that against you... :):):) Enjoy your memories, and know how much I and my family (all RHS grad's) have appreciated 'our years' of association as students and parents, with our dear alma mater; Richfield High School. Hope to see you all at the party. Mike Waggoner If you wish to reply to this message, please send an email to Mike Waggoner. Richfield High School's 50th Anniversary Message posted on Thu, 15 Apr 2004 Dear Friends and Class Mates of 1966; I am hosting a class room at the RHS 50th Anniversary on October 16, 2004. It will be open from 9 AM - 3 PM, and each class year will have it's own class room to set up and put on display. I would like to invite all of you to attend this open house get together, just to visit the Old School, and maybe run into a few old friends from years gone by. I have just started putting this together, but I have already been in touch with a couple people, and I hope to be contacted by a few more before the end of this month. I am also looking for any one that might have year books, or pictures that we could display for the day. I promise everything will be returned in A-1 condition, or the same condition it was in when it reached me. I live in Des Moines, Iowa now, and I am still single and enjoying life to it's fullest. I have a home, 6 dogs and 1 cat, and all of my family still lives in the Min neapolis, area. I am an Uncle 20 times, a great uncle 41 times and a great great uncle 3 times. I do keep busy, and just trying to keep my family together, and not loose track of anyone, I am also the Family Tree Keeper. I would like to do the same with some of my old school mates. I know I was a nerd to some of you, and a geek to others, but I was always true to myself and my friends. I enjoyed my life, and those that I was involved with. There are a few people that I would very much enjoy seeing again, and there are some that I know I will never see again, but who ever you are lets just have a good time. Write me at Glenb431@Mchsi.com. I posted a message in the 2001 file, but back then my e-mail address was Glenb431@Home.com Home.com went under, so now it is Mchsi.com. Hope to hear from a few of you, and hope to see a few of you also at the Anniversary Party. Check it out at www.deckernet.com Glen G. Class of 1957 Message posted on Thu, 15 Apr 2004 Since today (April 15th) is my 65th birthday (hard to believe), it's appropriate that I look for other people who went all the way through the Richfield School System from First Grade through Graduation. Our class was the first class (I have occasionally talked to Larry Molsather, another First through Graduation person) to go all the way through the system including all three years at the High School. My Brother-in-law Tim Jensen was also in the class of 1957, my late brother Phillip Jones was in the class of 1959 and my wife, Mary Jensen Jones, was in the class of 1960. Her late mother, Alice Jensen, was the Secretary in the High School office throughout the 60's. Let's hear from others who were products of all twelve grades in the class of '57 from Richfield. My bio can be found on www.newpursuits.net. C. David Jones If you wish to reply to this message, please send an email to C. David Jones. I would like to open a few minds and bring back the past. I have just started working on this today - April 10, 2004, but I promise I am going to make a great effort to make my classmates proud. Please contact me, and if you have a new last name, please let me know you by your maiden name. I was not real popular in High School, so some of you might not even know me. But I was there!!! Looking for Jack Cooper and Kellie Cooper Message posted on Sat, 10 Apr 2004 Does anyone know what happened to Jack Cooper? He graduated in 1979 from Richfield Springs Central High. I would also like to hear about his sister Kellie too I know she is younger than Jack, if anyone knows where she is these days I would be very grateful to know how to reach her. It's been many years since I visited Richfield Springs, and I know that many people that I grew fond of there during my visit to that beautiful town no longer live there. But that visit there that summer of "75" made a big impression on me in my youth, and I have many wonderful memories of all the people I met there. I would like to know how everyone is doing these days, life is too short to lose track of people that hold a special place on our hearts. You'd like to talk with some old friends, but might not be able to make it to your next reunion? And what about those friends who weren't in your graduating class? There is an option -- Classmates.com will be hosting an online reunion for RHS alumni from 1987 - 1997 on the evening of Wednesday, April 7, 2004. It will cost $4.95 to participate, and is free to classmates.com members. If you have registered at classmates.com already, you will receive an invitation from them on Monday or Tuesday of next week with further information and instructions. If classmates.com mail usually gets flagged as spam in your mailbox, check your junk folder. If you are interested in the online reunion, make sure you have basic registration at www.classmates.com, and that the email address you provided there is current. Hope to see many of you April 7 on classmates.com! Heather If you wish to reply to this message, please send an email to Heather. Centenntial Elementary School Message posted on Fri, 12 Mar 2004 Hi ya. I was class of '78 from RHS. I'm curious as to what happened to some of the 'kids' that went to Centennial during the 60's. And what happened to some of the teachers, as well. Mr. Jackola, Mrs. Gaylord, Mrs. Hagen, Mrs. Bergum, to name a few. I remember a kid named Steve Humphries. And Dan Toay. And Donna Blunt. Barb Kleen. Russell something-or-another. Russell was a REALLY tall kid. Craig Theil. Some of the spellings of these last names may be completely wrong. Drop me a line if you feel so inclined. Message posted on Wed, 3 Mar 2004 The year 2004 marks the 50th year for Richfield High School. This 'treasure' located on 70th and Harriet in Richfield, Minnesota holds many memories for RHS Alumni and there is a strong sentiment from the Alumni who have contacted me that something should be done to mark the school's 50th year. I have received some news since I posted a question about the potential 50th Birthday Celebration for Richfield High School. There, indeed, is some preliminary discussion currently taking place for the planning of an appropriate celebration. School District, Community and Alumni participation is currently taking place on a limited scale and there will be more news to share and opportunities for involvement as this event develops. Want to let you know that even though the planning for the event is just getting started there is alot of energy being generated. I will contact this web site again with further information as news develops. -Norm Plasch, RHS Class of '72 If you wish to reply to this message, please send an email to Norm Plasch. 1994 Class Reunion Message posted on Tue, 2 Mar 2004 Does anyone know if there are any plans in the works for a 10 year reunion for the Class of 1994. I am writing to let you know about a special project that the RHS bands are currently undertaking this year. We are commissioning a composer to write a piece of wind band music as a memorial in memory of 3 students who passed away while they were members of the band (and students) at RHS. 2 of the three students would be seniors this year, Jenny Sandahl and Mike O'Hagan. The third student is Andrea Markkanen. The piece promises to be wonderful and celebrate each individual. The world premier of the work will be on May 18, 2004 at RHS. Tickets will be available by advance sale only as space is limited - watch the RHS website (I believe the band link is under academics) for information on how to get a ticket. I hope to see lots of friends and classmates of Andrea at this event! For those of you who haven't been in touch with me I now have a 4 year old daughter who is named after Andrea. If anyone would like to make a donation to the pro! ject email me and I will let you know where to send the check. I hope all of you are well and would love to see you on May 18!
