RHS BOY'S BASKETBALL TEAM  After losing the stars from the 2005 State Basketball Tournament team AND being bumped up from 3A to 4A, the RHS boys basketball made it to state again in 2006! In the sectionals they defeated Eastview 68-66, then knocked off the #1 seed Eagan 71-60 and finally beat Apple Valley 73-69 to advance to the State Tournament for the second consecutive year. They had a rough first half in their first round game against Robbinsdale Cooper, but they came from 19 points back in the second half to tie and force the game into overtime. The game ended with Richfield losing 66-60 in OT. Cooper went on to beat Elk River in the semifinals and then lost to Hopkins in the final. Poetic justice - their students were VERY bad sports - several groups yelling "Richfield sucks" and other things at us when we were walking back to our car at the Target Center after the game. You'd think you could at least be good sports when you won the game... In any event, the Spartans' one game in the tourney this year was a good one, and they darn near pulled it off. |
