About The WOODSHED
The Woodshed is a place where you can gather Graphics, MIDI music, a WAV file or two, photos, a bit of humor here and there, and links to thousands of places on the net. This is a personal home page that I work on in my spare time. You can find out more about me here, or view my resume here. The Shed was "born" in late 1994 when I was working for America Online as a Tech Live Assistant, and AOL decided to start offering its members Web space. Those of us who worked for them were asked to beta test the usage of this Web space, so I created a little page, put a few links on it, and called it "The Woodshed" - meant to be a place to "gather" Web knowledge and experiences. Little did I know that it would become as popular or as huge as it has. Little by little, I added more and more to the thing. By the time a year had passed, I had gone over my 10mb space limit on AOL, so I moved site to the hway.net server. In the summer of 1996, I registered the deckernet.com virtual domain, and moved the Shed there - still on the hway.net server. After getting burned (to the tune of about $500) for having too much file transfer during the Christmas season of 1996, I quickly moved deckernet.com to IQS - a Web space provider that had unlimited file transfer, and that's where it still is now. From its beginnings in 1994 as a beta tester's little hole in the wall with a couple of pages, a few megabytes of space, and maybe 20 visitors a day, it has become a monster with well over 100 pages, 75mb of space, and anyhere from about 1500 to about 7500 visitors a day, depending on the season. I struggle now to keep up with it - both time-wise and money-wise. For that reason, I ask that you please patronize the sponsors that I am affiliated with by clicking on advertising banners that interest you. I hated to have to go to using ad banners, but nothing in life is free, and 75mb of Web space certainly is not free. If I am lucky, the banners that I have placed on these pages here will generate enough to pay the rent for this Web space - something that I can really no longer afford since I have been living alone and trying to make it on a $10/hour income. So, please - by all means - if something on a banner catches your eye, check it out. You might find something you want, and help the Woodshed survive at the same time. :-) I accept NO responsibility for the content or reliability of any of the Web pages that my own pages link to. Enter them at your own risk. If you find dead or dying links on any of my pages, please send an email to me (see the mail link below) so I can fix them. There isn't enough time in the day to keep up with all of the links that I have here in the Shed... :-) The graphics on these pages are for the most part optimized palette GIF 89a interlaced images. Some of the larger non-transparent logos as well as most of the background tiles and photographs are standard JPEG images. Most of the Shed's graphics and font color combinations will look best at color depths of 65k or more, however the graphics and font colors on this particular page have been optimized for the standard Windows Netscape 216 color palette. If you have enough RAM on your system and a display card that is capable of it, I STRONGLY suggest that you read your user manual and change your display to 65k or more colors. The Shed (and the Web in general) will look much different to you - I guarantee it! The pages in the Shed were originally created and tested using a Gateway 2000 PC running Windows for Workgroups 3.11. Now they are updated and maintained on a Dell running Windows XP. I see them on a 19" monitor at 1280x1024 resolution/65k colors, but I periodically test them at other screen resolutions and color depths. The site was originally optimized for Netscape, but I am in the process of optimizing it for Microsoft Internet Explorer, since my logs tell me that about 85% of my visitors are using MSIE nowadays. |
Enjoy, and Thanks for Visiting! Please sign my Logbook when you're done exploring the Shed.

About This Page
Graphics on this page were hand crafted from scratch and from other graphics by Martha Decker on a Dell 8300 using Corel Photo Paint and Paint Shop Pro. The page itself was created using Hot Dog Pro 7.03 for Windows. If you are interested in using any of my graphics, please send an email to the autoresponder Graphics@deckernet.com for permission. This page was developed on a computer running at 1280x1024 resolution at 65K colors. If you are running at a different resolution or color depth, things might not look as intended. I HIGHLY recommend that you run at least 65K colors. The Web will look dramatically different to you - I guarantee it!
The background tile on this page is an adaptation of a tile I found on the Corel Photo Paint Plus 5 CD. Click here to view it or click here to view the JPEG version of it.
