Sandy and Misty were our two Golden Retriever girls. We got Sandy in the fall of 1980 from an ad in the Honeywell World. She had been a stray, and was found running with a male Golden. You guessed it... she was pregnant. On December 18, 1980 she had puppies. Misty was one of them.

Sandy was a character. She had a mind of her own, and one never quite knew what she was going to do. She never really did any harm, but she liked to do things like take off the minute no one was looking, and she did have quite a talent for getting food off the counter. And of course - whatever bone she ever had, the one Misty had was ALWAYS better. She'd spend hours trying to figure out a way to get that bone. What'd always end up happening, though, is that Misty would get both of them. ;-)

Misty was really "my girl" even though she was a family dog. I held her when she was born, I held her when she died, and she was at my side during her life almost every minute that she could possibly be there. She was never formally trained, and scarcely informally trained for anything - she just did it. Never needed a leash, never had to worry about her with anything.... one of those "one in a lifetime" dogs, I think. It's been over a year now since I had to have her put to sleep, and I still miss her so much. There was just something about her that made you feel like she just understood it all... a large piece of me is with her wherever she happens to be.
